Being deaf and hearing impaired affects communication. So winners of this scholarship have already overcome many challenges to earn their undergraduate degree.
As the name suggests, this scholarship is all about pursuing excellence.
Criteria and Application Details
Amount : Up to $15,000
Awarded : Once a year to one applicant
Purposes Funded: Post-graduate study as part of preparing for career
NZ citizenship / permanent residency required? Yes
Eligibility Criteria - Applicants must:
Be a deaf or hearing impaired New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
Have a moderate or greater hearing disability which affects their ability to communicate Be enrolled in post-graduate study at a university or intending to start post-graduate study within the following 12 months
Applicants planned course of study can be at any university, national or international, which offers a post-graduate qualification that is recognised in New Zealand.
The NFD has the discretion to widen the criteria.

How to apply: Applicants can be self-nominated or nominated by a peer.
All applications must be on the official application form. Photocopies of the form are acceptable.

Closing date for application: 30 September each year
Decision and notification process: Applications are considered in October and November. Short listed candidates are invited for an interview with the selection panel.
The recipient is announced in December.
