Children's and Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy offer educational assistance to students interested in pursuing a pediatric pharmacy career who are currently enrolled in Texas Tech's School of Pharmacy program. Students in their third year (professional year one) who have an identified interest in pediatrics may submit applications.
This scholarship offers a $5,000 stipend per year to be used for tuition, fees, books or living expenses. Recipients are eligible for four years of stipend, provided the academic and service requirements are met and a valid pharmacist intern license is obtained. Additionally, at the beginning of any on-site clerkship, successful results from a drug screen and completion of a TB test are required.
- Loan of laptop computer each year of program participation. Laptop must be returned to Children's Medical Center Dallas at the end of participation or upon graduation.
- Ten weeks of summer pharmacist intern work at prevailing pay rate.
- Option of part-time pharmacist intern work during P3 and P4 years.
- Preference for available pharmacist or clinical pharmacist positions at Children's upon graduation and licensing.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered:
- Complete an application
- Maintain a minimum Grade Point Average of 85 on a 100-point scale
- Meet the course hour and competency assessment requirements for annual academic progression
- Enroll in any elective pediatric courses offered by the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy
- Complete all three required P3 (professional year three) clerkships (Basic Hospital Pharmacy, Basic Clinical Skills-Inpatient, Basic Clinical Skills-Ambulatory) at Children's
- Complete the required P4 (professional year four) pediatrics clerkship at Children's
Service Conditions
Work as a paid pharmacy intern at Children's during the summers after the P1 and P2 school years (minimum of 10 weeks each summer), at the prevailing rate for Texas pharmacy interns.
Work as a paid pharmacist at Children's for a minimum of two years after completing the highest level of education and training desired, at a salary that is not less than the average starting salary for a staff pharmacist or clinical pharmacist with the same level of education, training and experience.
Education and training may include:
- PharmD.
- PharmD. + general practice residency
- PharmD. + general practice residency + pediatric specialty residency, or
- PharmD. + general practice residency + pediatric specialty residency + pediatric research fellowship).
- If there is no pharmacist position available at Children's when the student completes his/her education and training, the two-year service requirement as a paid pharmacist will be waived.

- A two-page abstract stating why the student is pursuing a career in pediatric pharmacy and how he/she will support the mission of Children's to make life better for children.
